Wilbur's brows furrowed once again, his gaze flashing.

Albert shook his head. "It's not up to me. Anyone in my position would do the same. You have to understand that this is about the safety of our country."

Wilbur slowly leaned back against the sofa and stayed silent.

Albert said, "What's wrong with joining the department, anyway? We have a great deal of power and a pretty nice salary. Wouldn't it be better for Cape's development if you put that power to good use?"

Wilbur stared at Albert, caught off-guard by his statement.

This old man seemed to know all his secrets and was exposing them like it was nothing. It was quite a shock that the old man was encouraging the abuse of power for personal gain.

Albert smiled. "Don't look at me like that. This isn't that big of a deal to people like us. We're all just doing what we need to get by. It's true that we get paid pretty well, but you're going to need a side gig or two if you want to live truly comfortably, aren't you? I'll let you in on this. I've got a few clubs in Northseecher that will guarantee a good time. Once you've joined us, I'll be sure to treat you well."

Wilbur did not know what to say. Why did this guy sound more and more sketchy?

Albert chucked, "Also, we're currently undergoing a shift and are preparing to branch out in different locations. Once you've joined, we'll give you control over the northwest territory. All you have to do is stay put here and you can do whatever you want until you have a task."

"I don't think it'd be the best idea for a newbie like me to be in charge of a whole branch. Besides, what am I supposed to do as someone with that much power?" Wilbur frowned.

Albert said, "You'd definitely be one of the department's finest cultivators, which would make you perfect for the role without a doubt. You'll be the head of just one branch. It's fine."

Wilbur fell silent for a long time before asking, "I guess that's alright if you put it that way. Could you tell me about what I'm supposed to do?"

"Your job is to capture cultivators going against the law or help solve some problems with nature." Albert paused for a moment, then continued, "That's all you have to do. We'll assign you official documents and passes that allow you to get assistance from any department in the country. Someone else will fill you in on the specifics."

Wilbur was mildly surprised.
