"A banquet?" Faron fell silent. "I'll pass on this one. I shouldn't be showing my face at an event like this."

Faron was someone of power, and it was true that he had to pick what events he attended.

Wilbur chuckled. "Are you sure? There might be something worth seeing."

"Something worth seeing?" Faron's face lit up with curiosity. "I've got to be there, then. What banquet is this?"

"The city business banquet. You can find out where it is for yourself," Wilbur said, then hung up.

He gave it some thought and took his own caller card out of his personal phone before inserting it into the phone the department had given him.

There was no way he was going to be lugging two phones around all the time.

He put his license and handgun back into the briefcase, then tossed it onto the passenger seat before driving back home.

It was only one o'clock in the afternoon then. Wilbur sat in the living room in silence, thinking long and hard about something.

This banquet was definitely going to be something else. Faye's father attending would definitely make things awkward, and Wilbur was certain that Fabian would go the extra mile to give him a hard time.

Wilbur was feeling helpless. Fabian was, after all, Faye's father, and Wilbur had to respect him for that, at the very least. Faye had every right to argue with her father, but Wilbur was far less qualified.

He thought about it and figured the best thing to do would be to just wait and see. Either way, he would respect whatever Faye decides.

She was not only working under Wilbur. The two of them shared a special relationship that was undefined, but it was definitely significant.

Time went by just like that, and Faye finally returned from work after six o'clock in the evening. Jose was also here, lugging in a large suitcase behind her.

Jose had been Faye's driver and bodyguard ever since Wilbur had taken him down. He had been doing a fine job since.

"Hello, sir." Jose bowed to Wilbur respectfully.

Wilbur got to his feet, nodding at Jose. "Thanks for the hard work."
