She said it as if she was worried Zachary wouldn't show up.

Zachary paused slightly, his brow furrowing. "The Wynn family raised you."

Winona had already reached the stairs. She glanced back at him. "During my three years abroad, I carefully calculated everything the Wynns spent on me. My daily expenses were high, sure, but I never bought real estate or expensive jewelry. So, I transferred three million dollars to pay off that debt of gratitude. If they decide to sue, I'll represent myself."

She was a lawyer; she could easily defend herself in court and save on legal fees.

In the past, Winona had been deeply hurt because she cared too much about these people. Every word they said felt like a poisoned arrow.

Now, she had ruthlessly severed those ties, using three million dollars to buy her way to freedom.

A single divorce paper would erase her past with Zachary.

She looked at him and offered a faint smile. "Zach, I'm truly sorry for the past. I mistook my reliance on you for love..."

Before she could finish, Zachary turned away coldly. "Suit yourself," he dropped the words like ice.

Even his back radiated a hard, chilling tension.

Logan quickly gathered the documents and hurried after him.

He genuinely admired Winona's ability to speak so breezily under his boss's crushing pressure. Just moments ago, Logan felt like he was being suffocated, a cold sweat breaking out on his back.

Stepping out the front door, he finally let out a breath.

Shortly after heading upstairs, Winona received a call.

It was Grace Montgomery herself.

"The interview department is having a dinner party tonight. The address was sent to your phone ages ago. Did you not see it?"

Winona genuinely hadn't seen it. She checked her messages, noting that the location had been sent just ten minutes prior by the young girl who had handled her onboarding.
