To think he was so overjoyed that he had locked himself away to aggressively drink in celebration—he truly was obsessed with Sienna.
Seeing Winona’s stone-cold reaction, Mrs. Yates awkwardly turned her attention to Zachary. "Mr. Shaw, would you like a bowl of hot soup to settle your stomach?"
There was still a fresh pot simmering on the stove.
Zachary ignored the housekeeper, his dark, heavy gaze fixated entirely on Winona’s elegant profile as she twirled a bite of food onto her fork.
He slowly rolled his wheelchair closer, reaching across the table to slide one of the side dishes directly in front of her plate.
Winona froze mid-bite, slowly turning to glare at him.
His face remained an impassive mask, but the raw intensity burning in his eyes made her skin crawl.
Frowning in sheer discomfort, she slammed her fork down on the table, marched over to the fridge, grabbed a pre-made sandwich, and headed for the stairs.
"Winona."
He followed her through the house, only to be abruptly stopped by the staircase his wheelchair couldn't navigate.
Without so much as a backward glance, Winona tossed an order over her shoulder. "Call Sienna. Tell her Zachary is drunk and making himself sick."
Sienna would undoubtedly jump at the chance to play nurse, even with her hectic party prep.
As Winona disappeared onto the second floor, Mrs. Yates nervously swallowed hard. There was absolutely no way she had the guts to actually call Sienna.
She cast a terrified glance at Zachary, who sat completely motionless at the base of the stairs, shrouded in a dark, suffocating silence.
"Mr. Shaw, sir?" she tried again, her voice trembling. "Would you like something to eat?"
Zachary blinked, as if finally snapping out of a trance. He gave a low hum of agreement, wheeled himself over to Winona's abandoned chair, picked up her used silverware, and began methodically eating straight off of her discarded plate.
Her leftovers were completely cold by now, but he consumed every bite with borderline obsessive reverence.
