Thunder crashed outside as a sudden, torrential downpour hammered against the windows.
Winona sat alone on the couch for a long time before finally getting up to take a shower.
When she came out, she found Logan back in the house, carrying a duffel bag out of the master bedroom.
"Ma'am, you're still awake?"
Catching her eyeing the bag, he quickly explained, "I'm just grabbing some clothes for the boss. It looks like he'll be hospitalized for the next two months."
Winona nodded, following him down the stairs. "Still haven't caught the driver?"
"No. The Lockwood and Preston families have both stepped in to help, and they haven't found a single trace. The police are starting to think the guy doesn't even exist."
If multiple elite families couldn't dig up a single clue, the police were definitely running into a brick wall.
And Zachary's legs...
She was truly shocked that he would be confined to a wheelchair.
She swallowed hard, genuinely at a loss for words. Maybe she and Zachary really were cursed.
He had dragged her through hell, and she had inadvertently cost him his legs.
"Ma'am, the boss has banned all visitors and refused to let me stay overnight with him. You should drop by and check on him when you can."
She found that hilarious. She was the root cause of this mess. Seeing her would probably just disgust him more.
"Tell Sienna to visit him."
She walked into the kitchen and couldn't stop herself from asking, "Where's the cat I used to have?"
She had been back for days, but the cat was nowhere to be seen.
"Sienna is allergic. The boss moved the cat to another property three years ago."
