Esther turned and nearly tripped after taking just two steps.

Seeing this, Finnegan was too worried to let her walk on her own, so he lifted her up. "Let me carry you inside."

Esther's eyes widened in surprise. "I don't think that's a good idea. My parents are home. What would they think if they saw this?"

"It doesn't matter." Finnegan glanced at her quickly. Esther stopped protesting and let him carry her inside.

As they entered, Esther's parents were watching a show in the living room. They smiled broadly when they saw them.

"Oh, Finn is here. What happened? Why are you carrying her?"

Esther hid in Finnegan's arms, feeling shy, and didn't say anything. Finnegan explained patiently, "We went out and she drank a bit too much, so I'm helping her inside."

Her parents missed the part about the drinking and focused on him carrying her. They thought Esther had finally made a good choice and were thrilled.

"As long as you're safe at home, it's fine."

Finnegan set her down on the couch and sat next to her.
