"K?"
Winona almost wondered if her mentor had the wrong person, but a woman as cautious as Marcus would never make that kind of mistake.
She recalled that she had actually met K briefly after returning to the country, but the environment was so pitch-black she hadn't been able to make out his face.
Later, when she woke up at the clinic, Dr. Harrison had mentioned that K was the one who brought her in.
"Isn't it just social anxiety? He brought me to the clinic recently, though I was unconscious, so I still didn't see his face."
"No, he has severe psychological issues. His living space can't have a single ray of light. I'm not entirely sure about the environment he grew up in, only that he was raised in complete isolation without a single friend. I'm terrified that if this continues, something terrible will happen to him."
Processing the information, Winona nodded. "I understand. I'll try to invite him out soon. I'm going to hang up now."
She slid back into the driver's seat and glanced at the rearview mirror, noticing Zachary resting in the back with his eyes lightly shut.
Even though she had memorized every line of his face over the years, looking at him still effortlessly stole her breath.
Sometimes, Winona used that as an excuse for herself. It wasn't her fault she had loved him so blindly back then. Who wouldn't lose their mind over a man with those looks and that physique? The creator had painstakingly sculpted Zachary to sheer perfection, paying exquisite attention to every last detail.
Unfortunately, during that flawless creation, they forgot to add a heart—which explained why he was always so chillingly detached.
Leaning his head back, his sharp jawline and prominent Adam's apple were fully exposed.
Sitting behind the wheel, Winona pressed the gas pedal. As they waited at a red light, she couldn't help but speak up. "Zachary, are you asleep?"
"What is it?" Zachary replied.
"I think you still need to focus on treating your legs."
Winona was nothing if not practical. No matter how suffocated she felt, her primary concern right now was keeping herself alive.
"Hmm."
As the light turned green, Winona accelerated again. "I don't think you're the type of person to just give up on yourself. I asked Dr. Harrison, and he said that as long as you rest in bed for two months, your follow-up results might improve."
"We'll see."
His tone was as flat as ever, yet the freezing aura surrounding him seemed to have thawed considerably.
