"Jeffrey said he texted me back then, but I have no memory of ever seeing a text from him. And just a few days after he showed up, I lost my phone. You replaced it and got me a new SIM card. Looking back, it all feels a little too coincidential."
There was no way she simply missed his messages.
Knowing Jeffrey's relentless nature, even if she missed one text, he would have obsessively spammed her until she replied.
He claimed he called her, too.
Yet her peace had never been disturbed.
Had Zachary tampered with her phone?
But he had no reason to do that.
Given how deeply he favored Sienna, if he had known back then that Sienna was the true heiress, he would have had Winona thrown out on the street without a second thought.
Faced with her scrutiny, Zachary lifted his gaze, his tone flat. "Get to the point."
"Mr. Shaw, I trusted you completely back then. Did you know long before everyone else that I wasn't a Wynn?"
"Winona, I have always been busy. From the time I was twelve years old, I have been incredibly busy."
He was simply stating a fact.
Zachary's business genius had awakened very early. He preferred quiet environments and rarely attended social events in their affluent circle. Most of his time was spent alone, studying business courses. He had operated like a machine since childhood.
His wheelchair rolled past her. Suddenly, as if a thought had just struck him, he stopped and looked back at her. A profound, unreadable expression flashed in his eyes. "What exactly are you expecting?"
The words landed like a brutal slap across Winona's face.
It felt like pure humiliation.
What was she expecting? Did she actually believe Zachary had secretly eliminated Jeffrey to protect her from being kicked out? Did she think he had quietly tampered with her phone and fabricated an excuse to buy her a new one?
