Sienna, her eyes rimmed with red, cast a lingering glance at him before softly pleading, "Please don't fight with her. At least not in front of Grandmother."
She spoke with such heartfelt sincerity, it was as if she genuinely cared about the old woman's feelings.
The rest of the Wynn family was visibly moved. They gently pulled Sienna away, though she kept looking back over her shoulder as they left.
Julian was still grinding his teeth. "Sienna, why do you care if they fight? I read Jeffrey Yates's posts. I can't even imagine what kind of hell you went through. What more does Winona want? She's never even given you a decent look. If I were her, I'd be practically worshiping the ground you walk on out of sheer guilt."
Sienna sighed softly as they climbed the stairs. "Zachary always takes my side, but he's known Winona for years. How could he not care about her at all? The fact that he's still willing to call her by her first name means he's still holding onto the affection they shared as childhood sweethearts. Please stop saying things like that."
Hearing this, Quincy instantly felt a surge of indignation for Sienna. "If he still can't let go of Winona, doesn't that make you a backup plan?"
Sienna's face immediately went pale. Hearing her own father say it out loud seemed intensely humiliating. She lowered her head, the perfect picture of a woman silently enduring heartbreak for the sake of love.
Julian quickly rushed to defend him. "Dad, Zachary is just having trouble letting go, that doesn't mean he still loves her. Besides, look at the guy—does he even look capable of loving anyone? Maybe he never loved Winona to begin with. The only reason that marriage happened was because you and Mom rushed them into it. You practically had to tie Winona up and drag her to the Shaw family. Men are always hung up on their first woman..."
Quincy's expression darkened even further. Back then, the Wynn family desperately needed the Shaw family's backing, so they had pushed relentlessly for the union between Winona and Zachary.
And now, it had resulted in this catastrophic mess.
Tears began sliding down Sienna's face, though she hurriedly wiped them away. "Please don't fight because of me. It's not that Zachary doesn't want a divorce. Grandfather Shaw has already spoken. He demanded that Winona take responsibility for healing Zachary's legs. If the results of his next checkup are positive, maybe they can finally finalize the divorce. No one can defy Grandfather Shaw. I just can't shake the feeling that the injury to Zachary's legs is too suspicious. Could Winona have..."
