Winona Wynn and Zachary Shaw novel CHAPTER 136 by Jade Emerson read online

Besides, if she showed up at the Wynn estate with him, wouldn't that be telling the whole world she was involved with Zachary?

They never even had a proper wedding when they got married. Because Grandmother Wynn had just passed away, the family couldn't hold a celebration, so they had quietly registered for their marriage license. The plan was to hold a belated wedding after a one-year mourning period, but with Sienna constantly interfering, Winona stubbornly kept pushing the date back out of sheer spite.

She pushed it back for so long that now, there would never be a chance.

It seemed it was just fate.

Winona decided to drop Natalie off at her place first.

Watching her step out of the car, Winona noticed Natalie was still carrying her high heels. Looking closely, she realized the soles of the shoes were completely worn through.

Winona frowned. "Are you really pinching pennies this hard just to buy a place?"

In the past, Natalie would have felt deeply ashamed of her poverty. Being broke had made her subconsciously distance herself from Winona during their school years, terrified that a careless remark would strike a painful nerve. But as they grew closer over the years, that shame had faded away.

Natalie dangled the shoes in the air. "Do you think it's easy for normal people to buy an apartment in Empire City? I've only been out of college for a few years. I squeezed every penny to save up hundreds of thousands of dollars. I don't even dare buy skincare over ten bucks. But even so, I treated you to that expensive coffee last time. Bestie, when you get rich, you better not forget about me."

The once hyper-sensitive girl could now joke about her struggles with ease.

Those who hadn't had their throats squeezed by poverty would never truly understand the desperation of having nothing.

Winona sat in the car, her lips curving into a warm smile. "Once you close on the apartment, I'm taking you out for a massive dinner."

"It's a date."

Natalie waved and turned toward her complex, remembering to slip her broken heels back on before walking away.

Watching her go, Winona chuckled to herself. Natalie had definitely changed a lot.

Then again, being a lawyer meant dealing with endless bizarre people. If she had remained as fragile and sensitive as before, she never would have been able to make a real living.
