Grace was an absolute veteran at the network. For someone like her to make a statement like that, she had to be genuinely terrified of Winona.

This new girl had been in the Interview Department for less than a month. In that time, she had ousted two bosses and scared off the network's top anchor. Her track record was undeniably ruthless.

The colleague who had tried to start trouble instantly sat back down, leaving the room in pin-drop silence.

The department door swung open, and an HR rep walked over, tapping on Winona's desk. "Congratulations on the promotion. You'll have your own private office from now on. Head over to HR to fill out the paperwork."

Winona froze, a flash of genuine confusion crossing her eyes.

The rest of the office snapped their heads in her direction, utterly shocked.

Seeing that she truly had no idea, the HR rep handed over the promotion notice. "It's definitely you. You're the new Deputy Director of the Interview Department. Come with me to finalize the process."

Winona pressed her lips together. Who the hell pushed her into this position?

It took her exactly one second to realize it was Silas Chandler.

Silas must have let his imagination run wild, assuming she had deep, unshakable ties to Zachary, and took it upon himself to push her up the ladder.

She found it almost laughable. The man's calculated gamble was destined to backfire. Once Sienna found out Winona had been inexplicably promoted, she would run straight to Zachary to complain about Silas. The Shaw Group was the largest investor in several of the network's hit shows. Silas's little stunt was going to blow up in his face.

And Silas wasn't the only one who would suffer. The second news of her promotion leaked, Winona herself would become public enemy number one.

Silas was a shrewd operator. Why would he play such a blatant hand?

It looked like a favor, but the timing was deliberately designed to draw massive amounts of hatred and resentment toward her.

A promotion on paper, but a shove off a cliff in reality.

Silas's attitude was completely off. Just last night, he hadn't shown any hostility toward her.

Winona had no idea what had shifted his mindset today.

She lowered her eyelashes, remembering her mentor's advice: meet every problem as it comes.
