"Okay, I'm heading out too. I'll be there in about half an hour. See you at the courthouse."
Her tone was breezy, like she was finally tossing out a heavy burden, or maybe a piece of trash.
Zachary stood in the elevator, catching his own cold reflection in the mirrored walls.
His eyes looked completely hollow. The public always claimed he was a machine built for business.
After his one and only media interview, the internet had exploded with speculation about whether he would ever lose control over someone.
But out of the hundreds of thousands of comments, everyone arrived at the exact same conclusion.
He wouldn't.
Just as the elevator doors were about to shut, a hand blocked the gap. Logan Quinn stood on the other side, his posture respectful. "Boss, I'll drive you."
"No need."
Zachary's tone was flat. He pressed the floor button without a change in expression. "Handle this morning's agenda."
"Understood."
Their exchange was the same as always: Zachary gave the order, and Logan followed it to the letter.
It was only when it came to Winona that Logan dared to take matters into his own hands time and time again.
But without his boss's silent permission, Logan would never have had the guts to act out of line.
Because of that, Logan remained firmly convinced of a certain theory in his head.
At ten-thirty, Winona arrived at the courthouse right on time. She sat in her car, replied to a few messages on her phone, and waited quietly for Zachary.
By eleven o'clock, Zachary still hadn't shown up.
He was notoriously punctual when it came to business. Logically, he shouldn't be late.
Plus, he didn't care about her and probably wanted this divorce just as badly so he could joyfully marry Sienna.
By eleven-thirty, Zachary was still a no-show.
Winona frowned and dialed his number, but it went straight to voicemail.
Feeling a spark of annoyance, she unblocked him on the messaging app and fired off two quick texts.
[What's the holdup?]
