Winona Wynn and Zachary Shaw novel CHAPTER 49 by Jade Emerson read online

When Winona woke up, Bluebell was fast asleep right beside her pillow. In an excellent mood, she washed up and headed downstairs for breakfast.

As she arrived, she heard a maid say, "The boss usually wakes up at six, but there hasn't been a sound from his room. Mrs. Shaw, do you want to go upstairs and check on him?"

Winona felt a strange sense of dissonance. Why did the staff in this villa assume Zachary would listen to her?

Hadn't Sienna visited the villa countless times? She was the master of winning people over, so why hadn't she won over these maids?

Frowning slightly, she quickly finished her meal. "His leg is hurting, so it's normal for him to sleep in. Plus, it's Saturday. He probably wants to rest."

The maid sounded genuinely anxious as she tried to explain. "No matter if it's a Saturday or if he's sick, he always wakes up exactly at six."

Winona had only made him a plate of pasta last night out of respect for their shared history. She had absolutely no desire to act as his caretaker now.

"Then call Sienna. She's going to be the lady of the house soon enough; I'm sure she'd be thrilled to come over."

The maid looked conflicted, eventually letting out a sigh. "Never mind. I'll go check on him myself."

She headed upstairs while Winona returned to her own room.

Minutes later, the maid was frantically knocking on her door. "Mrs. Shaw! I knocked on the boss's door, but there's no answer! It's completely silent inside, and I'm terrified something happened..."

If something else happened to Zachary, the Shaw Group would undoubtedly tear Winona to shreds without a second thought.

With a deep scowl, she hurried over to the master bedroom and unlocked it with a spare key.

Stepping inside, she found Zachary lying perfectly still with his eyes closed. His face was deeply flushed, his brows knitted together in obvious discomfort.

Reaching out to check his forehead, the heat radiating from him nearly burned her hand. He had to be pushing a fever of over a hundred and four degrees.

And he hadn't made a single sound?

Or had the fever just spiked while he was unconscious?

"Zachary, you're burning up. I'm having the doctor come over to check on you."
