Winona slowly set her silverware down, her tone perfectly calm. "Not only am I human, I'm the only sane one in this room. You two better watch yourselves. I'd hate to see you end up categorized in some incestuous step-sibling documentary."

With that, she stood up and headed straight upstairs, completely done indulging their twisted dynamic.

Zachary seemed entirely accustomed to her shocking remarks. He simply pressed his lips together.

It was impossible to tell if he was genuinely angry or entirely unbothered.

Sienna, however, felt like the universe was finally handing her a victory. Winona was shooting off her mouth with zero filter; Zachary was bound to get thoroughly sick of her soon!

This was perfect!

Up in her room, Winona took a shower, dried her hair, and sat on the balcony holding Bluebell, staring blankly out into the night. Below, she heard the dog barking.

Sienna was walking Bubbles in the courtyard, with Zachary wheeling himself right beside her.

Sienna's voice chimed with breathless joy. "Look, Zach, this is the new trick Bubbles learned! Even though she's an old lady now. It's crazy to think you gave her to me ten years ago. She's basically our child."

She was testing the waters. Once Zachary finally divorced Winona, she planned to transfer her legal residency to the Wynn family, and then maybe...

She waited for his response.

But Zachary just reached down, gently rubbing Bubbles's head without saying a word.

"Woof! Woof!"

The dog was overly excited tonight, bounding in circles around them.

Holding her cat, Winona suddenly felt Zachary's gaze cut upward, finding her on the balcony.

She didn't look away. With Bluebell resting comfortably against her palm, she stared right back down at him.

Their eyes met across the vast expanse of the night.

Zachary didn't move, the evening breeze lightly ruffling his hair.

Winona was suddenly struck by a memory. During college, every time Zachary came to visit her, he would wait downstairs exactly like this.

He had attended a prestigious university abroad, while she stayed in Empire City at Capital University, navigating the hell of a long-distance relationship.
