Returning to the living room, Claire lost her appetite entirely at the thought of Winona.
With Zachary skipping dinner and Julian sulking upstairs, the massive dining table was left to just her, Quincy, and a lovestruck Sienna.
Sienna got up and headed to the kitchen, meticulously instructing the chef on how to pack the food.
"He doesn't like this, skip it."
"Only the most tender cuts of the coral grouper."
Listening to her bustle about, Claire let out a long sigh and turned to Quincy. "We never should have let Winona and Zach get married. It turned them into a resentful couple and now Sienna is too afraid to confess her feelings. Honey, what should we do?"
Quincy's heart naturally leaned toward Sienna. He had never felt any true fatherly affection from Winona.
Over the past few years, Sienna's constant affection had melted even Quincy's strict demeanor. "Sienna loves Zach. We need to push him to finalize the divorce as soon as possible so he can marry Sienna. He clearly has feelings for her too; Winona is the only thing standing in their way."
"But we raised Winona for over twenty years, and she truly loves him..."
"So you want the daughter we fought so hard to find to suffer for the rest of her life?"
Quincy's tone turned icy as he spoke with sudden gravity. "Do you remember the circumstances of Sienna's adoption? She was brought back by Arthur Shaw when she was seven. She had been surviving alone in a dumpster for an entire week. If he had found her any later, she would have died. Arthur said she was digging out trash to eat, too terrified to even cry, just clinging to her last breath."
Claire covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face. "Please, don't say anymore."
Quincy's eyes softened with pity. "Before she turned seven, she was nothing but skin and bones. For a long time after Arthur brought her home, she wouldn't speak—she just shadowed Zachary everywhere. She had suffered so much, yet Winona constantly targeted her, resenting her for stealing the spotlight."
