There was a brief silence on the other end. "So when are you gonna break up with Natalie? I heard your wedding is in two months. Chloe will definitely be back by then, right?"

Luke's company had finally found its footing and was poised for massive success. After all, they had raked in over half a million dollars this year alone, and their revenue was steadily climbing.

He stared blankly at the wall, his voice raspy. "I don't know what to do. She's been with me for eight years. If we break up now, everyone will crucify me. But honestly, I'm just bored. Staring at the same face for eight years... anyone would get sick of it. Maybe I never even loved her. Maybe she was just there when I had no other options..."

"Luke, you need to come clean to Natalie before this gets worse."

"I will."

Luke rubbed his face tiredly and took his phone into the bathroom.

When he stepped out of the shower, he found Natalie in the living room, having already prepared dinner.

She was exhausted too, but she firmly believed that their future was bright and that everything was finally falling into place.

Her lips curled into a smile as she called him over to eat. "By the way, you've only met Winona once at that graduation party years ago. Once she's free, I'll introduce you properly over dinner. I've already sent her the wedding invitation."

She leaned in and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Luke, I'm just so happy. The second I walked into that house, I fell in love with it."

She couldn't hide the pure joy in her voice as she smiled and handed him a fork.

Ever since they had moved into this rental, Natalie had been the one managing every little detail of their lives.

Working together toward a better life always washed away her physical exhaustion. Once they bought the house and tied the knot, everything would finally be perfect.

"I bought some salmon today to celebrate. We've been scrimping and saving for so long, I can't even remember the last time we had something this nice. I usually just eat cheap sandwiches at work."

She would nurse a single dollar-store instant coffee all day. Today, when she met up with Winona, she had purposely chosen a nice dessert cafe, terrified her friend would tease her for being a cheapskate.

Natalie was notoriously stingy when it came to her own daily expenses. Her only desires in life were to buy a house and get married.

Luke forced a tight smile and sat down in silence.
